Dental Trauma
Saving injured teeth
Traumatic dental injuries can occur as a result of sports injuries or accidents. Injuries can range from minor trauma to the teeth such as cracks or chips in the enamel to more severe injuries such as a complete dislodgement of the tooth from the socket. All traumatic dental injuries are considered an emergency and require immediate attention to preserve the vitality of the tooth/teeth and surrounding structures. The complete extent of the injury may not always be visible and evident and consequently, requires a thorough examination. It is important to contact your dentist or endodontist as soon as possible. At Focus Endodontics, we always ensure a detailed examination of the area including the use of our dental operating microscope and our in-house cone beam computed tomography machine to assess the neighbouring teeth and tissues. Depending on the age of the patient and the extent of the injury, root canal treatment may need to be commenced within a week of the injury to prevent further damage to the tooth. If you or your patient has suffered dental trauma, please call us immediately to book an emergency appointment.
