Internal Bleaching
Whiten your discoloured tooth
Teeth can become discoloured for a range of reasons such as decay, dental fillings, bleeding, root canal materials, and/or extrinsic reasons such as smoking. Internal bleaching, also known as the walking bleach technique, is a technique used to whiten the appearance of a tooth from the inside and can only be carried out on a tooth that has had successful root canal treatment. This procedure is carried out by your dentist or endodontist and is different to the over-the-counter whitening treatments currently available on the market.
How is internal bleaching performed?
Internal bleaching is a simple procedure and is completely pain-free. The procedure involves gaining access into the tooth under rubber dam and placing a whitening agent inside the crown followed by a temporary filling. The agent is left in the tooth for approximately 2 weeks and subsequently replaced until the desired effect has been achieved.
Once you are happy with the result, the opening is filled with a permanent filling. In a small percentage of cases, internal bleaching may not produce the desired effect. This can be related to the cause of the discolouration. At Focus Endodontics, we believe it is important to determine the underlying cause so we can provide you with the best results and you can achieve that bright, white smile you are looking for.
